This is what I went through to get to and take this photo.
· 1hr 15min drive to the Davis ferry
· 45min ferry ride across to Cape Lookout
o This is $50 each way so $100 total
· Get permit to drive on Cape Lookout
o $25
· Drive in the sand to from mile 30 to between mile 45 & 46
o This took around an hour & the jeep did not like it!
o Total travel time was around 3hrs
· From my campsite it was an additional 1.7 mile hike up the beach to the spot
I arrived the day before the day of the shot. I had hoped to get some test shots in and verify the exact spot I needed to setup. However cloudy skies prevented getting any shots in that evening, but I did hike to the location to check it out. Using the GPS coordinates from my shot plan I went to the spot and marked it in the sand and used some conch shells to make it easier to find the next evening.
Well neither the app I used to plan the shot, nor Google showed what I found the next evening when I hiked to the spot. Check out the 2nd photo on this blog and find my tripod and camera in it. Yes...I had to wade a over 100ft out through waist deep ocean to setup somewhere close to the spot that I could not see this evening.
Really hazy skies with light clouds prevented me from getting the detail and color that I had envisioned for the shot...but I went through all this for a shot so I made the best of what I could capture.
